A Second Life woman who insists on constructing her entire avatar exclusively from freebies appears increasingly frustrated that Linden Lab has yet to formally recognise her achievement.
ღღ KandyMoon Sparkle ღღ has spent the last eleven years proudly informing anybody within conversational distance that she has “NEVER spent a single L$ on my avi.”
“It just proves you don’t need money to look amazing,” said Kandy, whose face currently looks like it has been set on fire and put out with a shovel.
Her avatar has been painstakingly assembled from approximately 140 group gifts, lucky chairs, Midnight Mania boards, hunt prizes and objects found in boxes labelled FREE WOMANS STUFF 2014. The result includes a head from 2018, a body from a manufacturer that no longer exists, hands apparently belonging to a much larger woman and feet which disappear whenever she wears sandals.
“I don’t understand people who spend thousands on their avatars,” Kandy said. “You can look just as good for free.”
Observers confirmed that you cannot.
Kandy’s current skin was obtained during a weekend promotion six years ago and is technically designed for a different head.
This has resulted in her eyebrows appearing approximately halfway up her forehead and something deeply troubling happening around the mouth. She remains delighted with it. “FREE,” she explained again.
Friends say Kandy approaches every compliment as an opportunity to reveal how little she paid. “Someone once said they liked her dress,” said longtime acquaintance RavenStorm Resident. “She immediately shouted ‘ZERO LINDENS’ and then spent twenty minutes explaining group notices.”
Kandy is particularly proud of her hair, which cost L$1 and clips through her skull in three places. “People are being ripped off,” she said. “Why would I pay L$300 for hair?”
The Second Liar suggested one possible reason might be to prevent passers-by seeing the inside of her head. Kandy described this as “elitist.”
She is now campaigning for Linden Lab to introduce a special profile badge recognising residents who have successfully avoided financially supporting any creator for more than a decade.
At press time, Kandy had teleported to another shopping event after hearing there was a free mesh handbag available to the first 500 visitors. She already owns 73 handbags, none of them close properly.
