Johnny Ersatz reports. 30 September 2026 A SECOND LIFE man who describes himself as a “paragraph roleplayer” has broken the world record for a single post describing how he unfastened his belt, producing a work longer than several Greek tragedies. Lucian Blackthorne, 47, began the action at 8.14pm on Friday and finally reached the buckle shortly before Sunday lunch. His partner, Katie Moonveil, initially responded by catching her breath, which Lucian interpreted as permission to explain the belt’s history. “It wasn’t simply a belt,” he said. “It was a boundary. A promise. The final restraint upon a darkness she had awakened but could never hope to comprehend.” Katie said it was from a fatpack. The post opened with Lucian’s fingers travelling “with devastating purpose” towards his waist, followed by nine paragraphs establishing which fingers and a substantial passage about the silence between them. By paragraph 38, his thumb had made contact with the buckle. At this point, the narrative moved backwards to explain why he had chosen the trousers. Professor Helen Marsh, who was asked to assess the record attempt, said: “We compared it with several Greek tragedies. In those, kingdoms fall, families are destroyed and people discover appalling things about their parents. “In this one, a man is still dressed.” Lucian’s post also described the effect his actions had on Kenzie, whose body apparently “betrayed her” on 17 separate occasions despite her having supplied no further input. Her pulse quickened. Her knees weakened. Something ancient stirred within her. In reality, she had gone downstairs to put a wash on. “I came back and he’d written that I was trembling beneath the unbearable weight of anticipation,” she said. “I was trying to get a duvet cover inside out.” The belt itself was described as “yielding reluctantly”, although observers pointed out that Lucian had considerable control over the situation, being both the person unfastening it and the person deciding how the belt felt. A 1,200-word passage explored the metallic click of the buckle. This was followed by an account of how the click affected Kenzie, the room, the shadows and a candle that had already endured quite enough. Lucian said: “Every detail matters. Paragraph roleplay is about giving your partner something to respond to.” Katie currently has 63 pages to respond to, including an assertion that she has forgotten her own name. “I haven’t,” she said. “I’ve forgotten why I agreed to this.” At one stage, Lucian’s belt slipped free of the first belt loop, prompting a lengthy reflection on surrender. Unfortunately, five loops remained. Linden Lab moderators briefly intervened after mistaking the uninterrupted wall of text for a denial-of-service attack. Lucian accused them of stifling creativity, then wrote a further eight paragraphs describing the tightening of his jaw. Kenzie attempted to move the scene forward by posting: “She helps him take it off.” Lucian asked her to respect his pacing. The record was finally confirmed at 12.06pm on Sunday, when the belt came away from his trousers and was placed on a nearby chair whose reaction is expected in a supplementary post. Asked what happened next, Katie said: “Nothing.
